Originally the Live. Love. Laf. movement was supposed to be fun.
Then Hurricane Sandy hit New York and we found ourselves feeling helpless. We wanted to DO something to help ... but we couldn't. Then we realized we could do something. We could raise awareness with a shirt and donate all of those proceeds to the victims through the Red Cross. It wouldn't be much compared to the enormous loss, but it would be something ... something to not just raise money but something tangible to help us all remember. And remembering is important. Today, in our hometown, there is a massive feeling of loss following the tragic events last night at The Grand Theater. These were our friends. When we try to absorb it we cry. Randomly, at times. Then we feel angry. Then, at some point, we want to do something. For some people who cook, they might bring food to the families. For others who own a restaurant, they might donate proceeds from a dish. Leaders of a church may pass an extra collection and call for prayers. People in government might create an observance to help us all remember. We do this. We make things that help people remember the amazing sense of togetherness we have in this town. Since that's what we do, that's how we try to help. By donating all of the order (not proceeds, not profits, the entire order) to the victims families these stickers become something different. It's a part of a one-time donation that will contribute a tiny amount in comparison to the losses these victims have suffered. But it comes with a reminder. A reminder of who we are. A reminder of them. It's something to stick somewhere that we can see everyday ... and remember. And remembering is important.
